Meditation mural for inner peace
This photo wallpaper by Gräflich Münster'schen Manufaktur radiates a wonderful sense of peace. The motif symbolises the gentleness that Jesus emphasised in his Beatitudes.
In the Gospel according to Luke there are four of them, in Matthew even nine: the so-called Beatitudes, which Jesus pronounced in the Sermon on the Mount. The concise form of language follows a certain pattern, rhythmically flowing and easy to remember. "Blessed are those who ...", or even shorter "Blessed are those who ...". In some translations the word "happy" is used instead of "blessed", which is more in keeping with modern usage. With righteous action, inner peace is established, so the intention.
The sunny, luminous background of this home-healthy non-woven wallpaper surrounds the meditative motif. It shows a young woman mindfully resting the head of a lamb in her hands. Eustache Le Sueur painted it for the private chapel in the Parisian house of his patron Guillaume Birssonnet. There one finds further pictorial transpositions of the Beatitudes in the basement. Meekness accompanied an altarpiece of the Annunciation, monochrome scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary and a ceiling depicting her Assumption. Today, only the altarpiece of the Annunciation and two of the Beatitudes remain.
Blessed are the meek
"Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth." This is how it is written in the Bible, and this is how the French painter Eustache Le Sueur (1616-1655) captured it in golden yellow, cream and warm rosé. He was a pupil of Simon Vouet and was also inspired by Italian paintings on show in Paris. Perhaps best known are his 22 paintings of the life of St Bruno in the Little Carthusian Monastery in Paris (now in the Louvre).
We should be as gentle as in the Beatitudes not only towards our fellow human beings, but also towards nature. Hohenberger Manufaktur für Tapeten has been doing this since it was founded in 1932, because our products are resource-friendly; we are constantly questioning and improving our production processes. Because we do not use PVC or harmful printing inks, the wallpapers from Gräflich Münster'sche Manufaktur für das Haus Hohenberger that are healthy for the home can be recycled without hesitation.
