Fondo Sea Salt

FONDO is Italian and means „deep“. This depth immediately catches the eye with this healthy wallpaper from Hohenberger. It comes from the grasses that we found during our walks around our design studio and in the nearby Fichtelgebirge.

We were particularly impressed by the foliage of wild tulips. In order to make the design look as natural as possible, we first processed the leaves and grasses into threads and put them on a traditional school weaving frame. They form the so-called weft, the chain consists of a mounted cotton thread. As textile designers, the work gave us a lot of pleasure, but was also associated with a good deal of effort: The grasses behaved a little more stubbornly than conventional yarn.

With patience and dedication, a structure was created by hand, which became more beautiful day after day in the drying process. We were surprised how the weaving pattern developed a life of its own and played wonderfully with light and shadow with its depth effects. The effort was worth it! With a lot of sensitivity, the natural product was translated into a printable form by our specialists on the 3D scanner and processed in the engraving centres. The fabric structure of the non-woven wallpaper unfolds its haptic appearance in the room through 100 % sustainably produced foam.

In 9 spicy colours

FONDO comes from the PEPPER collection, but is also available in the „sister collection“ SALT. Whereas the design is kept there in 8 restrained colours, FONDO trumps in the PEPPER variant with 9 predominantly strong colours. These include Curry, Chilli and the trendy Spirulina. Spirulia is a microalgae that is considered power food and contains a lot of vitamin A, among other things.
