Meditation Mural with Guru Dragpur

Don't be scared! This deity on the meditation mural by Hohenberger Tapetenmanufaktur removes negative vibes from your rooms.

Guru Dragpur is powerful. He is both teacher guru and meditative deity. He looks angry, but not towards his followers. For with razor-sharp wisdom he overpowers negative powers and holds tensions to help those he protects overcome them. Guru Dragpur is a wrathful form of Padmasambhava, the founder and source of Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism.

Bring this power into your home! The home-healthy meditation mural by Gräflich Münster'schen Manufaktur for the Hohenberger House radiates from within and chases away evil spirits with its power. The mural, which covers a total area of 2.70 x 2.10 m, is divided into three panels that are easy to apply. Support the design effect with earth-coloured and dark grounding on the floor and halfway up, for example with large vases and wooden sculptures.

Under the protection of the deity

What details can we see on the display? Jeff Watt of Himalayan Art Resources describes Guru Dragpur this way: "Guru Dragpur looks very angry, has a red colour, a face and three round eyes, he has a gaping mouth and bared fangs and flaming hair sticking up. The right hand grasps upwards a golden vajra sceptre and the left a black scorpion - both arms are outstretched at the sides. Adorned with a crown of five skulls, gold earrings, bracelets, necklaces and a garland of snakes, he wears a necklace of human heads. An elephant skin covers the shoulders with a tiger skin wrapped around the waist. Without legs, the lower body consists of a large kila (Tibetan: phur ba), a triangular peg extending down from the gaping mouth of a Makara sea creature. Standing on a triangular pedestal adorned with skulls, above a sun disk and lotus blossom, he is surrounded by the swirling flames of pristine consciousness."

The impressive mural is based on a so-called thangka (Tibetan: thang ka, thang ga). Thankas are artistic scroll paintings of Tantric Buddhism that are hung in temples or home altars for meditation. Their tradition has existed for over 1000 years. The detailed scroll paintings are created according to precisely defined iconographic rules. The sacred scriptures of Vajrayana/Tantrayana Buddhism (Lamaism) provide the guidelines. Thus, the body shapes, clothing and posture of the sitter must be meticulously observed. The painting technique of the thangkas is passed on by the masters to the best of their students. Traditionally, the scroll paintings come from Tibet, but today they are mainly painted in Nepal and in private studios.

Original craftsmanship serves as inspiration not only in terms of motifs. Like all products from the House of Hohenberger, this colourful meditation mural was made from materials that come from exemplary managed forests and other controlled sources.
