Shiva mural from Nepal
The Hindu god Shiva dances on his bull Nandi. This fully enchanting homely mural brings the mythology of India into your home cosmos.
Shiva is a cult. The Hindu god is part of popular culture. He is everywhere, whether meditating, in the yoga studio or in the Indian restaurant. Already during the Gupta dynasty (ca. 320-650 AD), a Shiva cult was celebrated, because the god unites many powers and qualities in himself. He is a desired lover, a resting pole, a controlled ascetic. But he can also assert his full power as the destroyer of the universe. In Hindu mythology, he forms the divine triumvirate together with Brahma and Vishnu. While Brahma is responsible for the creation of the cosmos and Vishnu for its preservation, Shiva can react to threats with anger, heat and storm.
On his forehead he wears a third eye. The three eyes are associated with the sun, the moon and fire as symbols. Shiva's forehead eye is particularly dangerous. The love god Kamadeva had to experience this when he shot an arrow at Shiva to tear him out of his meditation. Shiva then opened his third eye and burnt the intruder with a powerful heat ray.
Positive forces for your home
The picture depicted comes from Nepal and was painted in the 16th or 17th century. We see Shiva with his typical four arms, in which he also carries weapons. In South Indian paintings he has an axe in his hand, in North India the god holds up a trident, as he is probably depicted here. At his feet lies Nandi, who turns his head upwards to look lovingly at his lord. The white bull is Shiva's mount, often found on depictions and in temples of the god. Nandi symbolises the deep calm and inner strength that can be attained by conquering physical desire. These qualities also refer to Shiva's powers as an ascetic.
With this impressive mural, you can bring the positive powers of Shiva into your home. Let the motif, which with its three quickly attached panels results in a total size of 2.70 x 2.10 m, work its magic in a bright room. Selected accessories such as flowers, soft cushions and candles complete the meditative atmosphere. The materials used by the Gräflich Münster'sche Manufaktur for Hohenberger Wallcoverings in the production of its murals also contribute to this. The papers come from exemplary managed forests and other controlled sources.
